haiku impossible
I've just pulled a kilo pack of oxtail out of the freezer, planning on doing something with it tomorrow. My thoughts at the moment involve the slow cooker, and the end of a bottle of red wine that was a bit disappointing when we tried to drink it.

Anyone got any recipes, tips, other ingredients that absolutely should go in there, suggested accompaniments....?

I'm afraid my only suggestion would be to cook it as long and slowly as possible, so that the meat is easily stripped from the bone, together with the usual root veg, celery or what have you.

I'm also a bit of a sucker for dumplings with rich beef stews, but there are some lighter, herby recipes for those around that I really need to try.

Mmm, dumplings. I've got Gwen's really easy dumpling recipe, and if I want something more fancy, hobbitblue's egg dumplings.

It usually doesn't need much apart from onions and carrots. Pearl barley is good. Don't forget you'll probably need to let it cool overnight after cooking to try and skim some of the fat off - oh, and if you brown it briefly beforehand in a frying pan, it tastes so much better!
